He is out in the desert with the calves; he's a little calf himself! This 14" x 11" gouache painting, "Home on the Range", recently won Honorable Mention in the Turner Acryl Gouache/Jerry's Artarama National Competition. <br />

January also brought the unexpected.... dealing with breast cancer. I've had more doctors' appointments in the past month than in my whole life. I had a lump which I named "Sponge Bob", after my grandson's knitted finger puppet. Sponge Bob is gone now; he lives in a jar at the hospital, waiting for analysis. I am trying to remain cheerful and positive; it's the only way to deal with this. I am so grateful for all the loving thoughts and prayers that have been sent my way. I can feel their positive energy!Karlene Voepelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11612479403543121631noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898808533593766060.post-37540564694714398002011-12-10T18:02:00.000-08:002011-12-10T18:02:07.053-08:00Nativity Sets Still Available<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jXWzV3Ue2hM/TuQNk4BTyRI/AAAAAAAAADY/c7URkS6LpNM/s1600/Southwest+Nativity+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jXWzV3Ue2hM/TuQNk4BTyRI/AAAAAAAAADY/c7URkS6LpNM/s320/Southwest+Nativity+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" width="320" /></a>This is Karlene Voepel's most popular nativity set. The javelina ornaments mentioned below can be found there as well as the monkey bowl and other fun stuff.</div>Karlene Voepelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11612479403543121631noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898808533593766060.post-60894581610576967542011-12-08T08:50:00.000-08:002011-12-08T08:50:47.546-08:00Sock Monkey Models for Celebrity Bowl<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UZqGJn3q70Y/TuDpj1kBDWI/AAAAAAAAAA8/haDVxsIsCwc/s1600/Monkey+Bowl+%2526+Bib+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UZqGJn3q70Y/TuDpj1kBDWI/AAAAAAAAAA8/haDVxsIsCwc/s320/Monkey+Bowl+%2526+Bib+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>This Monkey Bowl, hand-built and hand-painted by Karlene Voepel, will be part of the Celebrity Silent Auction on Saturday, December 10th, from 2 to 5 pm at the Sedona Arts Center. The sale of these "Loving Bowls" will benefit the Sedona Food Bank and Meals on Wheels, as well as the Sedona Arts Center. <a href="http://www.sedonaartscenter.com/exhibit.htm">http://www.sedonaartscenter.com/exhibit.htm</a>Karlene Voepelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11612479403543121631noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898808533593766060.post-8193963932051593552011-12-07T10:46:00.000-08:002011-12-07T10:46:11.421-08:00Apples for the Art BarnThe Art Barn is old and crumbling, so the Sedona Arts Center had a tasty idea to raise money. Members were asked to create with an apple theme on a 6" x 6" canvas which was provided by the Art Center. The objects d'arte are being sold for $100 each, available in the upstairs gallery of the Sedona Arts Center. Here are my little gems:<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IdnZ5XJlFtk/Tt-pU756zYI/AAAAAAAAAAk/OV22jyABpzA/s1600/Ceramic+Apple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IdnZ5XJlFtk/Tt-pU756zYI/AAAAAAAAAAk/OV22jyABpzA/s200/Ceramic+Apple.jpg" width="175" /></a><br />
<br />
The first is a stoneware apple stitched to my acrylic painted canvas. (This was the hardest part; getting the needle under the canvas and into the apple.) The leaves were also made of clay with bright orange threads hanging down to add more color. The wires coming out the top are rather "avant garde" don't you think? The 1 1/2" gallery sides are not visible, but they are painted bright yellow, with a few Sedona red rocks on the left side.<br />

People here in Arizona have a love/hate relationship with javalinas. Like, they ate all our tulips last Spring!!</div>Karlene Voepelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11612479403543121631noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898808533593766060.post-55346208401129987972011-12-04T11:39:00.000-08:002011-12-04T11:58:41.628-08:00Paintings on display at Yavapai College Library in Clarkdale, Arizona<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NDCHfy4wPeE/TtvPZp0QzSI/AAAAAAAAAAc/Z3bZoJTapnc/s1600/Living+in+the+Moment+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NDCHfy4wPeE/TtvPZp0QzSI/AAAAAAAAAAc/Z3bZoJTapnc/s200/Living+in+the+Moment+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6TuNgARiy5c/TtvO1gzvJyI/AAAAAAAAAAU/kxBsFNgy63M/s1600/Crossroads+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6TuNgARiy5c/TtvO1gzvJyI/AAAAAAAAAAU/kxBsFNgy63M/s200/Crossroads+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" width="148" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hL6zerM2VhQ/TtvOW_aEkGI/AAAAAAAAAAM/ldLrUdPQ4aY/s1600/Conversation+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hL6zerM2VhQ/TtvOW_aEkGI/AAAAAAAAAAM/ldLrUdPQ4aY/s200/Conversation+by+Karlene+Voepel.JPG" width="148" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There's actually five, five new paintings on display at the Library at Yavapai College in Clarkdale, Arizona.
